Ziggy on Radio

"Sounds of the Seventies" - 7 February 1972

Radio/TV/Film/Video Index

Recorded: 18 January 1972 - BBC Session #9
Broadcast: 7 February 1972
Venue: BBC Maida Vale Studios
Musicians: David Bowie, Mick Ronson, Trevor Bolder & Mick "Woody" Woodmansey

Most agree that this was the best of the BBC Ziggy Stardust radio sessions with the four Ziggy songs being performed as well the eventual album versions. The show was hosted by Bob Harris and included an exclusive interview with Bowie as "Ziggy Stardust".  Although recorded on the 18 January, the song "Waiting For The Man" was not broadcast on the 7th February. "Five Years" was only ever recorded for the BBC on this date. A recently discovered excellent quality version of "Queen Bitch" from this session has recently surfaced amongst collectors. The 5 songs recorded for this show were:

"Hang Onto Yourself"
"Ziggy Stardust"1
"Queen Bitch"2
"Five Years"
"Waiting for the Man"

1 (1 of 3 versions) Identifiable by the lyric: "...he could kill them by smiling..."
2 (1 of 2 versions) Identifiable by the lyric: "Oh, the cot feels so cold...."
