"Hang Onto Yourself" - Arnold Corns Version

Background

Bonus song on 1990 Ryko/EMI release of THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD (1970). "Hang Onto Yourself" was first recorded by the Arnold Corns project and can be found on the following releases:

Another "Arnold Corns" release (B&C CB 200) also exists but is actually only a pirate issue of the tracks originally released on B&C records.

An earlier bootleg version of the song (with even more basic lyrics) taped by Rodney Birgenheimer at his "Rodney's English Disco" in February 1971 also exists. It has been labeled "David Bowie & Gene Vincent" but confusingly it does not appear to have any audible vocal contributions from Vincent and may well have just been the basis of a demo made by Bowie in front of and for Vincent's possible use. The track consists of David Bowie on acoustic guitar, vocals and dubbed backing vocals, with unsourced percussion and bass.

"Hang Onto Yourself" was re-recorded by Bowie and The Spiders From Mars for THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS (1972) - see Ziggy Stardust version "Hang Onto Yourself"
